Week One

Okay so these photos are really out of order! but here they are:

This is the group of us who went to Chan Chan. this particular area is considered where they held a councel similar to our court system. and the leaders would sit in the spaces in the walls.

Jacob climbs up the sign for Chan Chan

These are the typical boats the peruvians used to go out and catch fish

a typical bug; probably the most common car in peru except for taxi's......

Here is the pacific ocean! much to my disappointment we didnt go swimming, becuase we were just driving around and it was getting towards dinner time. hopefully we'll go to the beach sometime soon!

Back at Chan chan. this is the group of us who went: Pastor Onoray (i cant spell?), Sam Hornbrook, and Mr. Stilwell

Jacob walking on a narrow ledge in Chan chan to get up to the main burial spot.

a view of Chan chan, from the burial site of the king of that particular palace.

and adorable, random, peruvian baby!!!

so basically chan chan is just a big sand castle. worn away by wind and rain

as you can see the whole place was made from mud bricks, 600 years ago, and the water has worn away at it.

much of the place has fishnet-like carvings on the walls.

Inca dog hanging out in the water because it was a hot day!

Mr. Hornbrook and Jacob survey the freshwater resevoir inside the 'palace'. it could have been used for normal drinking useage, but also some skelatons were found, so maybe they put their human sacrifices there?

the walls were very thick, built with many layers of bricks.

a view of the outside wall

cactus, mountain and part of a wall

sea otters, so they say line the walls of one of the main courtyards
